Reconcile furniture and architectural drawings with actual pathways and telecommunications rooms. Capture hybrid-work patterns and growth rather than multiplying today’s desk count.
Counting drops from a furniture plan understates what the ceiling needs, since access points, cameras, sensors and displays draw power and consume switch ports the seating chart never shows. Size the port count, PoE budget and telecom room capacity around the whole device population, and put patch cords, panels, cable management and spares in the same bill of materials.

Pathways, media and infrastructure design
Engineer backbone and horizontal cabling, consolidation points where approved, racks, patch fields, grounding, UPS and cooling with clear ownership. Calculate PoE and uplink capacity for access points, cameras, displays and controls. Coordinate AV, electrical, furniture and ceiling schedules so outlets are serviceable and do not emerge behind millwork or inaccessible displays.
Tenant ceilings and open plenums leave less room for correction than a drawing suggests, so rack elevations, cable fill, cooling and UPS runtime should be settled before the first sleeve is cut. Substituting a panel, jack or optic to hold a delivery date can change the certification limits and the warranty position on work already installed.

Testing, turnover and service readiness
Build and test by phase, preserving live services and known-good patching until each area is released. Certify permanent links, inspect fiber, verify labels and reconcile port assignments. Have the responsible teams validate wireless, voice, AV, security and representative user workflows. Track punch items by room and outlet rather than broad verbal acceptance.
Set the tester limits, adapters and reference procedure per floor before the first area is cut over, and keep the native result files rather than a printed summary, because a marginal link argued about months later is settled from the raw trace. Links behind locked offices or unfinished millwork should leave the phase as named exceptions with a retest date.

Operations, capacity and lifecycle
Deliver room elevations, backbone strands, outlets, patch and switch ports, pathways, native tests, firestopping, photos and exception status. Record spare rack units, ports, pathway fill and fiber. Assign future MAC procedures, wireless and PoE capacity reviews, test-file storage and warranty ownership.
Records go stale as desks move, so the as-built set, port assignments, switch serials and entitlements should agree before the last crew leaves. Decide who may open the rack and patch a port, because the patch field is touched during hires and moves, and an unlogged change makes the next capacity review guesswork.

Move users onto the new outlets, confirm every service works at the desk, then retire the abandoned cabling.
